Who We Are
Gemstones in the Sun (GITS) is a healing community rooted in ancestral wisdom. Through Freedom Circles and storytelling, people of color practice remembrance, belonging, and cooperative transformation. We nurture psycho-spiritual liberation by cultivating dignity, sufficiency, and interdependence, creating spaces where personal healing becomes shared responsibility and collective flourishing.
The Four Elements of Our Philosophy
Our work flows through four living elements — each one a rhythm of remembrance and transformation:
1. Healing & Remembrance – Practices that restore balance, affirm dignity, and reconnect us to ancestral wisdom.
2. Empowerment & Expression – Storytelling and creativity that awaken confidence and collective voice.
3. Cooperative Transformation – Pooling our gifts and resources to nurture sufficiency, fairness, and shared abundance.
4. Interdependence & Solidarity – Living the truth that our wholeness is collective, our freedom intertwined.
Our Practice Gave Rise To A Story
We Were Seeds: An Illustrated Novella of Healing and Transformation
Our hope has a story. Our healing has a future. Our transformation dances with destiny.
Published by Gemstones in the Sun with a foreword from the GITS community, We Were Seeds is a narrative entry point into the ideas now explored through the organization's recovery practices in cooperative community life. Through story, it invites readers into the questions many are asking today — about healing, spiritual awareness, and transformation without repeating old cycles of harm. It's an invitation to imagine new possibilities for personal and collective change.
Freedom Circles
Freedom Circles invite people of color into a shared practice of healing, remembrance, and reflection. Together, participants cultivate enduring belonging and the sustained cooperative imagination that makes personal and communal transformation possible.
